What an intersting first half and a boring second half. This game was the definiton of “a tale of two halves”.
Most of the first half South Dakota State had the lead and it looked like we might have the first 16 seed to beat a 1 seed.
SDSU (no not, Donnel Pumphrey’s SDSU) was only shooting 37.5%, but the Jackrabbits were holding the Zags to 29% shooting.
Gonzaga didn’t look like the Gonzaga we all know and love (or hate, there’s really no inbetween), they looked lost.
I really thought they were going to lose, it looked like it was going to happen, I’m sure I wasn’t the only one.
The Zags shot 29% from the field and were shooting about the same from three.
Things weren’t looking good for them, but somehow, they went into the locker room at half with a four point lead.

The second half, however, was all Gonzaga all the time. The Jackrabbits of South Dakota State had no answer for Jordan Mathews, 300 pound Przemek Karnowski, and Nigel Williams-Goss. During this huge run the Zags went on, Johnathan Williams had a pretty nice dunk.

The Zags outscored the South Dakota State 40-24 in the second half. They got their shooting percentage up to 39.7%, while keeping the Jackrabbits offense at bay, holding them to 31% shooting.
The Zags move on to face the winner of #8 Northwestern and #9 Vanderbilt.
