A Preview of Week 5’s MWC Action

BYU @ Utah State – BYU -2.5

I still have no idea why BYU is favored in this game.  Tanner Mangum is out, and the Cougs have barely a heartbeat.  In the meantime, Utah State is coming off a huge conference win where the offense was firing on all cylinders.  Aggies if you lose this one (yes, I know you’re underdogs), it will be a huge letdown for this season.

Texas State @ Wyoming – WYO -16.5

Wyoming beat Hawaii in overtime with Josh Allen having a terrible game.  Texas State is bad, very bad.  Wyoming should be able to win this one easy.

Air Force @ UNM – EVEN

TRIPLE OPTION FOR ALL.  New Mexico beat Tulsa last week with a third string quarterback, and now Lamar Jordan is back.  For Air Force, Arion Worthman needs to respond after being a near non-factor in last week’s loss to SDSU.  I’m going with New Mexico at home because of their momentum and the return of their number one QB.

Nevada @ Fresno State – Fresno -10

The fact that the Bulldogs are favored by 10 in this game is not an indication of the “Tedford era” arriving: it’s more of an indication of the Wolf Pack just not having a pulse.  Ty Gangi has been renamed the starting quarterback for Nevada and that will not matter.  Depending on how close this game gets, it will be a litmus test on whether the Wolf Pack will even win a game this season.

It’s hard to see San Diego State losing for the rest of the season.  Aztecs beat the Huskies by at least 2 touchdowns.

SJSU @ UNLV – UNLV -13.5

Remember the last time the Rebels were favored by a significant amount, people were made aware of Cam Newton’s brother.  Let’s not make Zamore Zigler the next Barry Sanders, okay Rebs? UNLV wins big at home.

CSU @ Hawaii – CSU -7

Normally with how much better the Rams have looked, I would take this touchdown spread.  However, the Warriors played Wyoming close last week, with their defense shutting down Josh Allen and his receivers.  The running game was allowed to open up for the Pokes, and Dalyn Dawkins is perceptively much better than Trey Woods and Kellen Overstreet.  This is Hawaii though, where travel makes some difference and the Aloha Stadium trash and voodoo make the other difference.  I’m calling a Rainbow Warriors upset!
