Duke Blue Devils

Duke is on a bit of a cold stretch, losers of five straight. Two of those losses, however, have been against high-quality opponents, #7 Miami and #17 Virgina Tech. The Blue Devils are definitely battle-tested.

Duke’s QB Daniel Jones has a bit of a turnover problem that could come into play on Saturday. Jones has thrown seven interceptions on the year compared to eight touchdowns. If Jones starts throwing to the Black Knights strong secondary that has Elijah Riley and Rhyan England back, they might not have a chance.

Shaun Wilson is an outstanding running back and keeps defenses from keying in on the passing game the whole time. Duke is a pass heavy team but if the defense gets too lax on the run, Wilson will cut them apart.

Duke’s defense opened up the season giving up an average of 47.7 rushing yards a game through three games, but in the past three, they have given up 250.3 yards a game. They are now going up against an Army team who runs for 365.4 yards a game. If they can bring the run defense from early this year, they should have no problem with the Black Knights.

Army Black Knights

Army is coming off one of their biggest wins in a long time beating rival Air Force on the road 21-0, the only bigger win was Army/Navy last season.

Ahmad Bradshaw ran for a career-high 265 yards against the Falcons, he couldn’t be stopped. Every time he ran the ball it seemed like he ran for a first down(well he technically did, he averaged 11.5 yards a carry).

Bradshaw’s career day took some of the spotlight off of the defensive performance but boy, did they come to play. Air Force averaged nearly 40 points per game and 465 yards, Army held them to 184 total yards and zero points. That snapped Air Force’s 306 game streak of scoring. It was complete domination from start to finish.

If the Black Knights want to win they will need another big game from Bradshaw. Not necessarily as big as last week but a big one nonetheless.

Look for Army to bounce it outside more often, as Duke will probably look to shut down the fullback early on.

One of Jeff Monken’s goals ever since he got to West Point, is to go undefeated at home. He will have a chance to accomplish this goal on Saturday, a win moves Army to 6-0 at home, which hasn’t been done since 1996.

It will be a dogfight, Duke’s record doesn’t tell the whole story, they are still a good football team that is more than capable than beating the Black Knights, the spread for the game agrees.

Duke can’t stop the run of late and I don’t think they’ll start this week. If Army gets going offensively, the defense gains confidence as well and the game snowballs for the opposing team. This game could end up like that, Army’s on fire and Duke is ice cold.

I think Army will win, it will be close, until the fourth and then the Black Knights will distance themselves from the Blue Devils.
