Kicking and Passing Propels Army Over Eastern Michigan and to Bowl Eligibility 37-22

For the first time in Army football history, the Black Knights will go bowling for three straight years.
It all starts with the defense, in the first quarter EMU was held to eight yards. The Eagles defense gave up yards but they held Army to a field goal to make it a 3-0 game after one.
John Abercrombie added a second field goal to put Army up 6-0 early in the second quarter.
The Army defense continued to stifle the Eagles offense holding them to just eight more yards in the second quarter bringing their total to 16 for the first half.
Army capped off the half with a Jordan Asberry touchdown run to go up 16-0.
The Black Knights had as many points as EMU had yards.

The second half saw EMU come all the way back to make it a 16-14 game mid-way through the third quarter. After that, the legend of Kelvin Hopkins continued.
Needing a score to shift the momentum, Kelvin Hopkins came out and was calm, cool, and collected. On a third and six from the EMU 26, Hopkins hit a wide-open Jordan Asberry to put the Black Knights up 23-14.

After an EMU fumble forced by James “Hammersticks” Nachtigal, the Army offense took over, knowing they needed a score to put the game away. On a 4th and goal from the Eagles two, Jeff Monken said “I DON’T NEED NO FIELD GOAL” and he kept the offense out on the field and Kelvin Hopkins found Kell Walker in the end zone on a little pop pass to go up 30-14.
The Eagles would score to make it an eight-point game with seven minutes left.
Kelvin Hopkins got the ball back and drove down the field, picking up two clutch third downs and hitting Cline to go from second and nine to third and one. A few plays later Darnell Woolfolk would punch the ball in from nine yards out to make it 37-22 with 45 seconds left.
That score would hold and the Black Knights moved to 6-2 with a big game against Air Force next week back at Michie Stadium with a chance to clinch the Commander-in-Chief Trophy in back to back years for the first time ever.
