Army West Point Names Mike Buddie As New Athletic Director

Mike Buddie is moving up in the world, and he will take on an exciting new challenge now that he has been named the new athletic director for Army West Point. A press conference is anticipated tomorrow.
Buddie began his sports life as a baseball player, playing through his collegiate career at Wake Forest, which culminated in being the New York Yankees’ first-round draft pick in 1992.
He initially tried his hand as a starting pitcher but was eventually converted to the bullpen before capping out as a AAAA-type reliever with a modest handful of appearances for the Yankees and then later the Milwaukee Brewers.
Not long after that, Buddie returned to Wake Forest for a solid decade-long run as associate athletics director for administration and development before spending the last four years as the athletic director for Furman University in South Carolina.
Buddie is an Ohio guy with roots in the Carolinas who has experience on the big stage of Yankee Stadium. He’s coming to run one of the most challenging athletics departments in the country? Sounds like a winner to me.
