Well, that was the absolute worst.
I expected rust after not playing in three weeks. What I did not expect was horrendous play calling.
That’s what lost Army this game: play calling. The coaching staff didn’t put their players in the best position to succeed with those play calls.
Another super questionable decision was not riding the hot hands of Cade Ballard and Tyheir Tyler.
Christian Anderson made his return and was not himself. Tyler saw the field and made some plays but the offense became super predictable because they run the same two plays with him at QB.
Ballard didn’t see any action and everyone was confused as to why.
You know that J. Cole song “A Tale of Two Citiez”? Well, this first half was a tale of two quarters.

Army QB Christian Anderson was back this week. He had his struggles early on. The Black Knights opened the game with two straight three and outs and then a turnover on downs.
They were in a 14-0 hole by the end of the first quarter.
The play calling was a bit questionable and just when all of Army Twitter was calling for the benching of Anderson, he scored two touchdowns. One through the air to Tyrell Robinson and then one of the ground from 19 yards out.
The first PAT was blocked and the two point try on the second as no good so Army was still down 14-12 going into the half.
The story of the first half was definitely the drops by Tulane WR’s. They could’ve had a few more first downs if they just held on to the ball. It was spectacular coverage by Army either. They just dropped the ball time and time again.
The question play calling returned in the third quarter. After a Tulane touchdown, Army had a third and four. They decided to throw and sure enough, it was picked off.
Tulane was held to three on that drive to make it a 12 point game.
Army followed that up with a beautiful drive to get down to the Tulane ten yard line. The Black Knights decided to throw on third down and when they didn’t get it, they tried a FULLBACK PASS. It went as well as you would think a fullback pass would go.

But that wasn’t the last terrible call of the game. 4th and 11 from their own 17, Army had their offense on the field to go for it. Tulane took a timeout and Army brought the punt team on. Everyone and their mothers saw a fake punt coming. Army snapped it to LINEBACKER Arik Smith and it failed miserably.
Tulane punched it in the end zone shortly after.
On the ensuing kickoff, Army tried to pull a Rutgers and throw it across the field. Tyrell Robinson threw it right to Tulane and they scored easily.
Tulane got another interception on the next drive and they iced the clock out.
I have never seen an Army team get this out coached in the Jeff Monken era. It was embarrassing.
Army has to re-group and get ready for their next game against a good Georgia Southern team.
